2025+ Ioniq 5 MagSafe Charging Upgrade for iPhone

2025+ Ioniq 5 MagSafe Charging Upgrade for iPhone

The 2025 Ioniq 5 comes with a wireless charging pad on certain versions but due to its design, causes your iPhone to overheat fairly quickly. Once your phone overheats it stops charging and will lose charge very quickly when using wireless CarPlay.

To solve this problem, I designed my own MagSafe specific wireless charger that replaces the existing charging pad (on SEL, XRT & Limited trims) which solves two problems:

  1. The MagSafe charger is designed specifically for your iPhone and gets much closer to your phone leading to improved energy transfer.
  2. It lifts the phone higher off the rubber mat which allows for more airflow around your device leading to a cooler phone and much less liklihood of overheating and charge failure. In my testing, my MagSafe charger keeps the phone 10°F cooler! This doesn't mean your phone will never overheat as wireless charging inherently is inefficient and creates a lot of excess heat. This product reduces the time it takes to overheat depending on various factors.

Performance may vary. Phones will overheat quicker if in direct sunlight or in a hot car.

If you want to provide your own Apple MagSafe charging puck, there are two versions so please verify which version you have with the following information. You can also purchase the MagSafe charger directly from me.

  • Gen 1 has a rubber cord and the charger has the letters (R-NZ) etched on the side.
  • Gen 2 has a braided cord and the charger has the letters (EMC 8247) etched on the side.

I know many people would prefer an all black look but until Apple starts offering MagSafe in black, white is the only option I will be offering as it provides the best charging experience for the most people.

Installation (see video in photo gallery):

  • Pull up the rubber liner covering the existing charging pad. Take your new charging pad and align the 4 posts with the 4 holes located on the old charging pad and press down until it rests flat on the old charging pad. Plug it into one of the USB-C ports located in the center console and you're ready to go! Make sure to disable the old charging pad in the settings.
